The Turks and Caicos Islanders are traveling to Atlanta on June 17 to compete once again in one of the sports most prestigious tournaments, the ECHO HOCKEY NATIONALS . Over 100 teams have registered for the event from all over the United States and Canada.

The ISLANDERS will be entering our 12U “Elite” team in the Silver category. This is a smaller, select team of our most highly skilled players!

This team is made up of players selected from the PHL house league which has seen tremendous growth over the last five seasons and now boasts over 140 registered players on 12 teams in three divisions Mini, Bantam and Midget also 25 coaches, 4 referees 3 timing and scorekeeping officials and 3 commissioners, not to mention the small army of staff and helpers that all give their time on a voluntary basis throughout the year.

Training for this event began in April  following the regular season, with training camps for the players and coaches supplementing an intense practice schedule. The ISLANDERS are determined to be ready for the high level of play that this event is known for.

This is not the first time that the Provo Hockey League has broken new ground with the ISLANDERS program, in 2005 they were invited to play in the High School Championships hosted in the heart of USA hockey, Detroit Michigan. The experience was invaluable, and gave the team a clear sense direction for the future of the travel program. Being the first Caribbean team in history to play inline hockey at such an event gave the Turks and Caicos ISLANDERS celebrity status in Detroit, with Television and Press interviews and appearances on national TV happening throughout the week.Last year the Islanders played in the 2HOT4ICE  Tournament, Raleigh , NC . With the 10u coming in 3rd place and bringing home the Bronze medal  and Scottie Glinton winning the sharp shooter competition.
We will be traveling from June 17-22, 2008. We are guaranteed three games, an exhibition game and the opportunity to enter our players in the individual skills competition. Once again, the whole team, coaches and chaperones will be traveling with Turks and Caicos Islanders tee shirts and the Turks and Caicos Flag. We will make an impact!   CNN news network, based in Atlanta, has also given a nod to cover the Islanders story on their Saturday morning program!

The 2008 ECHO HOCKEY USA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS begin  June 19-21. The Turks and Caicos Islands wish their athletes the best of luck !!
